The Social Service Office and the Mobile Soup Kitchen are funded by proceeds from the Thrift Store, as well as donations and private grants. All donations, grant funds, and most of the Thrift Store profits from the sale of donated goods, go one hundred percent to the people whom we serve. Our Conferences are staffed almost entirely with unpaid volunteers, who generally number between 90 and 100.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul was founded by Frederic Ozanam in 1833 to serve impoverished people living in the slums of Paris France. Over the years, it expanded throughout Europe, and eventually to other continents. Today it has over 700,000 members, working in 148 countries.
Our mission is to lead our members to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need and suffering, in the tradition of our founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660).
Members of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass started the first local Conference of the Society in 1985, with an emphasis on social service assistance to people in need throughout Josephine County. In 1987 a Thrift Store was added, following by a Dining Room in 1998.
